Meet Ryan..
Ryan began his boxing journey later than most, stepping into the ring at 33 years old, but his combat sports background started much earlier in life. While boxing came later, fighting has always been part of who he is. His entry into the sport came in classic fighter fashion, while watching a boxing bout in Perth, Ryan offered his opinion on the fight and was challenged with, “If you think you can do better, why don’t you get in there?” True to character, he accepted on the spot, backing himself and committing fully.
A lifelong admirer of Nigel Benn, Ryan carries that same never‑say‑die mentality into every fight. For him, it’s never over until it’s over. That grit, resilience, and refusal to back down define his approach to boxing and competition.
Around the same time, FIFO work took Ryan to Karratha, where he discovered Raiders Boxing Gym and met Shane, a pivotal moment in his career. From day one, Shane made him feel welcome and part of the Raiders family. Known for his straight‑down‑the‑line honesty, Shane pushed Ryan relentlessly, never sugar‑coating performances, calling it out when things weren’t good enough and demanding more even on Ryan’s best days.
That tough but fair coaching built confidence and belief, ultimately leading Ryan to turn professional. Shane stood proudly in his corner for his first pro fight and first professional win, a moment Ryan credits as life‑changing. Their relationship extends far beyond coach and fighter, Shane is a brother, mentor, and a true legend in Ryan’s eyes.
As a professional, Ryan has had five fights with two wins, both coming by way of knockout, showcasing his finishing ability and hunger to end fights decisively. Now training out of his new boxing home at Phoenix Boxing Club, Ryan is ready for his next challenge, contesting the WA State Title on May 29. This marks his second attempt at the belt, and this time he is more determined than ever to bring it home.
Beyond his own career, Ryan is also proud to assist the coaching team, supporting the coach and helping guide and motivate fellow fighters wherever possible. He believes in leading by example, giving back to the gym, and contributing to the growth of the next generation of boxers.
When fight night comes, Ryan plans to leave absolutely everything in the ring, no regrets, no holding back, just heart, preparation, and total commitment to victory.
Ryan will also assist coach Shane and the team on his weeks off.
